It’s that time of year again to place the date of Saturday August 9th in your calendars for the VGVGA bbq and patch
tours. This will be held rain or shine and start at 10am. Dan and Holly Boyce have graciously volunteered to hold the event
at their house and hopefully we will get some growers local to them to volunteer their patches for a tour as well. The club
will provide burgers and dogs veggie too and non alcoholic beverages. Please bring a dish to share. (Chips will be fine again
Wilbur) If interested in adding your patch to the tour please contact Dan and Holly or John Young.
The cool may has seemed to slow down many growers but June is starting to heat up and the growth can catch up real fast with
a couple of warm weeks. So new growers don’t despair and remember there are always ups and downs all season long.
I am also talking with the Lake Champlain Chamber of Commerce on hosting our first ever pumpkin regatta to be held October
12th. Our weigh off hosted by Sam Mazza will be held on October 11th and we are hoping to get some discounted Hotel rates
for growers who wish to stay over night. If you are interested in providing a pumpkin (we are hoping to give each grower 100
dollars for donating their pumpkin) please email me at jkpayoung@hotmail.com or call me at 802-899-1082. This would be a regatta
that we would be a co-sponsor of. I will be soliciting area businesses to get sponsors for each pumpkin. I am hoping for 500
dollars per pumpkin with proceeds going to the grower, the event costs and a local charity. Our goal this year would be to
float at least 6 pumpkins.
